About

How a poem engages the reader in its first lines, and how to consider the degree of poetic closure desired as the poem ends are covered in this module of our Poetry Toolbox series.

The purpose and creation of titles, creating temporal movement, and simple techniques for revision by expanding and/or reorganizing the content of a poem is all discussed.

Do you struggle with how to break a line, whether your poetry should rhyme, or how to end a poem? The Poetry Toolbox is structured into four modules, all of which are open to anyone writing poetry, interested in beginning to write, or passionate about understanding contemporary poetry. The emphasis is on examining the craft in free-verse examples from contemporary poets. Free writes and exercises will provide opportunities to apply these skills to your own work. There is time set aside for a workshop, in which sharing your poems is optional. Take each module in sequence or choose them individually.
