About

Canceled due to low enrollment. Registrant has been notified. 1/26/23 SK

Construction of a narrator voice through the choice of pronouns, with particular emphasis on second person (“you”) is explored. Persona poems, which take on the voice of an object, animal, or figure from history or popular culture, provide additional avenues for writing in the first person and exploring different voices.

Do you struggle with how to break a line, whether your poetry should rhyme, or how to end a poem? The Poetry Toolbox is structured into four modules, all of which are open to anyone writing poetry, interested in beginning to write, or passionate about understanding contemporary poetry. The emphasis is on examining the craft in free-verse examples from contemporary poets. Free writes and exercises will provide opportunities to apply these skills to your own work. There is time set aside for a workshop, in which sharing your poems is optional. Take each module in sequence or choose them individually. This is the fourth module.
