About

Class canceled due to low enrollment. Registrants have been notified. 1/26/23 SK

The sonic qualities of a poem resulting from rhyme (end rhyme, slant rhyme, near rhyme), assonance, consonance, and alliteration are covered in this, the third module of our Poetry Toolbox series. We explore various ways of using repetition to create rhythm and emphasis.

Do you struggle with how to break a line, whether your poetry should rhyme, or how to end a poem? The Poetry Toolbox is structured into four modules, all of which are open to anyone writing poetry, interested in beginning to write, or passionate about understanding contemporary poetry. The emphasis is on examining the craft in free-verse examples from contemporary poets. Free writes and exercises will provide opportunities to apply these skills to your own work. There is time set aside for a workshop, in which sharing your poems is optional. Take each module in sequence or choose them individually.
