This is a great opportunity for beginning sewers — and confident beginners — to gain experience and come away with a beautiful finished project. All skill levels are welcomed.
The Portsmith Tote is a waxed-canvas, everyday bag designed by Klum House, a Portland, Ore., company that specializes in bag making patterns and kits for home sewists. It’s described as both stylish and functional.
You'll learn to:
- Read and follow directions from a pattern.
- Use a pattern to mark your fabric.
- Follow each step in constructing your project.
- Understand the characteristics of waxed canvas fabric.
- Stitch accurate seam allowances.
- Edge stitch.
- Create an envelope fold.
- Apply leather straps and rivets.
Details
- You can bring food for our lunch break. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level. Food is not allowed in the studio. All drinks should be in containers with secure lids.
- If you plan on using a BARN sewing machine, you must have completed Sewing Machine Orientation.
- You're welcome to bring your own machines as long as you have the basic knowledge of how to use it.

A $95 materials fee, included in the price, provides you with a complete kit that includes everything needed.
