About

Witches and wizards, 'tis the spooky season of preparing for dark days ahead. Gather around your softly simmering cauldron in BARN's kitchen for a costumed potions class.

We'll cackle and brew three different potions good for your body and soul. A fun night for all! And what's better, you'll go home with the knowledge to mix up magic in your own home kitchen.

Clinical herbalist Abby Rappoport and local food writer Anne Willhoit team up to guide you through the process of a variety of herbal preparations including a convivial berry shrub, a boosting elderberry elixir, and a medicinal herbal infusion. They’ll answer questions you didn't know you had, and bring some kitchen wisdom to your recipe box. A light snack and hot drink will be shared by the group during Q&A.

We're reprising this fun class that includes lots of laughter, a casual, community feel, and many goodies for you to take home. Gather your friends and spend a Saturday night with us in the kitchen.

Eye of newt and toe of frog provided. BYO wand, please.

Instructor
Abby Rappoport

Abby, a medicinal plant lover, has always had a deep affection for plants (her first job out of college was as a floral designer). Her interest in using them medicinally bloomed while she was studying for her master's degree in Chinese medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, Calif. In school she focused on herbal medicine, and after graduation became registered as a professional clinical herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. She's dedicated to teaching how powerful plant medicine can be, and is always happy to talk your ear off about medicinal plants! When she’s not working in her apothecary or garden, you can find Abby teaching somatic movement therapy, using movement as medicine to help folks feel better in their bodies. Connect with her at www.abbyrapp.com or on Instagram @medicinegarden_pnw or @movement_breath_health

She is grateful for the seasonal bounty that our island provides and prioritizes local, seasonal ingredients in her recipes.
