Instructor: Rodica Frunze, MD, PhD
Born in the small eastern European country of Moldova, Rodi currently resides on Vancouver Island, Canada. After graduating from medical university and completing her residency, she became a Dr. of Psychiatry. As part of her exploration into the “human experience” Rodiattained her PhD in biology / human physiology.
After moving to Canada in 2010, she started to express her creativity through acrylic painting but quickly switched to jewelry making as inspiration flowed through her dreams. Using her skills acquired as a Scientific Researcher, she developed skills in various metal-work jewelry making techniques. As her inspirations became more complex in design, she adopted metal clay as her primary medium while integrating the techniques of traditional metalwork.
Recognized as one of the worlds leading metal clay artists, Rodi was awarded the Saul Bell Design award in 2016. This was just one of the multitudes of jewelry making awards resulting from her constant development of techniques in working with metal clay.
Rodis' instructional approach is centered around learning, not teaching. Believing that the word teaching conveys a message that "the teacher" creates learning. Based on her extensive experience in the field of Psychiatry, she believes that "learning" comes from within. For this reason, Rodi prefers the term Guide rather than teacher or instructor.
