About

Come learn about robots at BARN by building your own combat robot. Students will build a 'fairy weight' class (150g) combat robot. Students will choose one of the three combat robot kits to build. Assembly will require some soldering, so it is recommended that students either take the ETA soldering class or have soldering experience before taking the course.

Students will be given time to test their combat robots with the remote controller provided with their materials. A future course will allow students to bring in their robots to practice competing with others and develop their strategy for an eventual combat robot competition.

Learn about combat robots here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_combat). You can also see the different types of robots in the fairy class here (https://grabcad.com/library/tag/battlebots) and watch an actual combat robot battle here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra7FG3G-JZE&t=223s).

Details:

  • Students must have soldering experience for this course - we recommend the ETA soldering course on Saturday, September 17th, 2-4pm
  • There will be three kits for students to pick from - first come, first served.
  • Registration for this class will close on September 25th at 12:00 PM.
  • Open to ages 13+ accompanied by an adult or 18+.
  • Please click here for BARN's current COVID-19 health & safety protocols.

Instructor:

Keith La Plain - Keith is a retired physicist who has spent the last 30 years developing medical devices and systems. His experience in electronics, software and more recently mechanical design has driven his interest in robotics and all things IOT.
