About

BARN member: $99 (two sessions)
Non-member: $119 (two sessions)

Materials Fee: $20

Come learn the basics of a safe alternative to etching with acid. We will be etching with a little NaCl + H2O, and a bit of electric current.

Day one will begin by testing out different kinds of resists and etching brass plates. (Copper also works but not for a roller mill plate.) Then printing our results on paper. Students will learn how to set up to do this safely at home.

Day two we will transfer the etched designs onto copper or sterling, using the rolling mill, to create finished jewelry with patterns!

This is a great cross-over class for both printmakers and metalsmiths. All experience levels are welcome.

Please bring if you have but no need to buy:
-Gloves & safety glasses
-Resists like: sharpie pens, stayz-on stamp ink, nail polish, contact paper, enamel paint pen, vinyl cut stencils, PnP blue, packing tape, etc.
-9v or 12v lantern battery with leads and alligator clips (or AC to DC transformer like a old cell phone charger - check your old junk drawers or Goodwill)
-E-Xacto knives
-Students can bring their own 22 ga. sheet sterling or buy from BARN.

Instructor: Jennifer Stenhouse is a jewelry maker and sculptor living and working in Seattle. She has been teaching Metalsmithing and casting since 1992.
