About

The two-stone pendant you’ll make in this fast-paced, intensive workshop will present you with the most common and often trickiest soldering set-ups that you’ll encounter in your jewelry practice. This project will give you an opportunity to reevaluate your soldering habits, and learn tips and tricks that will help you successfully make more complex pieces.

Details

  • The cost of materials is not included in the registration fee. Please see the Materials section below.
  • Experience level: Intermediate.
  • We'll take a one-hour lunch break, if you want to bring food or snacks. BARN has a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level. There are no restaurants close by.

Details

  • The cost of materials is not included in the registration price. The instructor will bring kits, which include all the materials needed, for you to purchase on the first day of class.
    • The kit cost will be approximately $140 – $200, depending on stones chosen and metal prices. Since the precious-metals market is volatile, the kit price is subject to change.
    • Bring a credit card or check with you for onsite kit purchase.
  • What you should bring:
    • An apron.
    • Towels for drying metal and hands.
    • Pen, notebook, Ultra Fine-Point Sharpie or other pen that writes on metal.
    • Safety glasses and magnifying glasses (or wear ones available in the studio).

Prerequisites

To be able to complete the project during this class, you must:

  • Have experience bezel-setting cabochons.
  • Be proficient in soldering.
  • Be competent in all basic jewelry-making processes, including measuring, drilling, sawing, and filing.

You can contact the studio if you need to discuss the experience and skills necessary.

Class Policies

  • Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.
  • Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, scarves, or ties.

Instructor
Baleigh Acebo

Tinkering with craft began for Baleigh as a wee adolescent—by taking objects apart to see how they were built. She pursued a BFA in Creative Writing and realized she had made a terrible mistake, because what she really wanted to do was work with her hands. Baleigh then enrolled in the North Bennet Street School’s Jewelry Making & Repair program in Bahston, MA and everything was good again. NBSS trained her to craft her own tools, fabricate intricate pieces from scratch, set diamonds and precious gems, and repair fine jewelry. As a process jeweler, Baleigh is turned on from the problem solving involved in building intricate pieces and setting weird stones. Her work contains bold colors, clean lines and lots of geometry. Baleigh is the Director of Alchemy at the artisan jewelry gallery, Balefire Goods, and teaches metalsmithing and stone setting workshops across the US. She shares a studio in Denver, Colorado with her talented hubs Alex Boyd, along with their two pups and cat.
