Create a hexagonal folded paper lamp and, in the process, learn:

• A method for cutting a hexagon from a square
• How to fold an 8"x8" triangle grid on a hexagon
• How to fold a star puff tessellation module, using the grid

• A $15 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers all the materials needed.
  
  

Project

You will use complex folding techniques to create a paper lamp shade, then use a puck light to make their lantern glow.

Instructor

B.Sue Johnson has lived what she calls a "well-creased life." At 10, she learned to fold origami peace cranes. The magic to be found in a folded piece of paper eventually led her to book arts and a fascination with illuminated paper. She worked as a US Postal Service mail carrier on the island from 1986 to 2005. Since retiring from federal service in 2016, she has created a series of origami installations outside the Winslow Post Office, paying homage to the postal service, as well as memorializing the painful history of the internment of the island’s Japanese American citizens and the bombing of Hiroshima during WWII.
