Materials
- A $100 materials fee, included in the cost of the workshop, covers all the materials you'll need for this project.
Class Policies
Ages 14 and up are welcome.
Wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
Instructor
Yuri Kobayashi is a furniture maker and sculptor based in Camden, Maine. Born in Japan, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in architectural design at Musashino Art University in Tokyo and then trained in woodworking at Shinrin Takumi Juku in Takayama City. She also holds a masters in fine arts in furniture design from San Diego State University and for many years taught at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been an instructor and lead fellow at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. Employing her discipline in traditional woodworking, she strives to capture her wonder and emotional nature in objects from abstract sculptures to functional pieces of furniture. Yuri exhibits nationally and has been awarded competitive residencies, grants, and fellowships, including Windgate Artist-in-Residencies at SUNY Purchase, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Arizona State University Art Museum.
