About

Learn how automata (moving mechanical devices) work and how to design your own. 

This is a hands-on creative class where you'll learn about different types of mechanisms like cranks, cams, linkages, shafts, and more. You'll use a variety of mediums and practical elements to build several fun automata projects of increasing difficulty and complexity.

Details

  • Designed for ages 10-14.
  • Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting paint on.
  • Families are invited to enjoy our sharing time during the last 20 minutes of class on the final day to view and take photos and videos of student creations. Students will take their creations home with them.
  • Registration closes Monday, July 13.

A $13 materials fee, included in the class fee, covers everything you need.

Class Policies

Ages 10-14 are welcome.

Cecilia Olivera-Hillway is an artist and maker who loves combining art and technology. Her career in education has included positions like Educational Technology Specialist and Maker Space Associate. Her work with electronics has been featured on the Make: website and their YouTube channel, won awards at Instructables.com, and been featured on the DesignSpark website.
