Learn about the world of self-publishing and make your own one-of-a-kind card creations.
Day 1: Learn about work you can self-publish and share with others. After an overview of the different self-publishing forms you'll work on throughout the week, your first project will be learning how to draw black-and-white illustrations and images in pencil and ink to make your own coloring book zine. You'll also create a single separate page to contribute to a camp class anthology (group zine).
Day 2: Learn about zines created from single sheets of paper. Different papers can be folded into either eight or 16 pages, and you'll learn how to fold and cut these little booklets into zines, mini zines, or micro-mini-zines. You'll learn how to make multiple copies of these books.
Day 3: Learn about handmade books, such as accordion books, which can be created entirely from folding and gluing paper. You'll learn the difference between making single unique books or editions, where you hand make the same book a few times. You'll learn how to create handmade covers, so you can turn zines into handmade books.
Day 4: Today is about handmade cards, including postcards. For your postcard art, you'll work in graphite and/or ink and for your individualized handmade cards, you'll use color mixed-media drawing and collaging materials.
Day 5: Final Class Fanart Friday, and Artist Trading Card/Trading Work Day! You'll spend this day finishing up anything not yet completed, trading zine copies, and learning how to draw different characters we already know and love. You'll learn about artist trading cards, which is a great way to practice drawing your own versions of beloved characters.
