About

Cosplay requires a huge number of items in addition to your main costume, and this class will focus on giving you the skills to make items in a few different materials. Our goal will not be to make a cohesive set of items for a single cosplay, but rather to set you up with the skills to make what you need for your own future projects! You will learn basic skills for building and finishing EVA foam, painting fabrics, and creating small accessories from faux fur.

Details

  • For students ages 10-14.
  • Skill Level: Beginner
  • Registration closes Monday, July 10.
  • A materials fee of $40 is included in the price of the class and covers all materials.

Details

Bring a solid-colored, button-up shirt or denim jacket that you are willing to modify (this can be from a thrift store, but all items need to be washed).

Project

You will make an EVA foam crown or faceplate, a set of faux fur ears, and an anime-style cel shaded shirt or jacket.

Class Policies

  • If you have any questions, please email BARN Youth Program Coordinator, Sarah Jones at SarahJ@BainbridgeBARN.org.
Instructor
Betsy Hagestedt

Betsy has been working with fiber since she was in elementary school, having learned to sew and knit from her mom. As an anthropologist, she uses her fiber practice as a means of connecting with people from other cultures, embracing the universal nature of fiber arts. Knitting gradually became her specialization due to its portability as she began to travel around the world. You can see some of her fiber experiments on her Instagram feed at behestknits. Since starting at BARN she has been learning as many new skills as possible. She is highly involved in torchworking in the Glass Studio, and has started dabbling with welding and woodturning.
