Days 1 and 2: Introduction to Fused Glass - Plates and Bowls

  • Safety.
  • Project overview.
  • Glass and mold options.
  • Basic cutting/grinding practices.
  • Cut and assemble projects.
  • First kiln firing (contour or full).

Day 3: Fused Glass Overview and Kiln-Fired Flexibility

  • Kiln explanation and overview of results of first firing.
  • Bug Collection: Using the kiln and forms to create fun objects.
  • Complete second kiln firing (slump) of dinner set.
Day 4: Introduction to Lampwork
  • Overview of working with torches.
  • Torch safety.
  • Making beads.
  • Complete second firing (slump) of dinner set.

Details

  • Ages 12-18.
  • You must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Tie back long hair. Particularly on Day 4 (lampwork), wear cotton clothes with long sleeves. Tight-fitting clothes help protect against burns. 
  • Bring water and a snack.
  • Registration closes on Monday, July 8.

Details

A materials fee of $120, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you need. 

Project

  • Two-piece dinner set (one dinner plate plus one bowl or salad plate) - learn design, glass cutting, assembly, and kiln fusion.
  • Glass bugs - understand properties of kiln firing that allow creating shapes, animals with forms.
  • Glass beads - learn how to manipulate hot glass with torches.

Constance Ducar

Constance is enthusiastic about working with beginning students and encouraging a love for glass. She sometimes incorporates fiber or wood as display options with her glass pieces.

Instructor
Nancy Adams

Nancy Adams has loved everything glass since she was a young child. During the '70s, she dabbled in stained glass and discovered playing with fused glass at Mesolini Glass Studio on Bainbridge Island. She became intrigued with techniques and processes for manipulating the glass. Her 2017 retirement opened the door for the opportunity to pursue glass experimentation and to share with others what she has learned.
