MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is the easiest kind of welding to learn and a technique with broad applications.

At the end of the class, students should be able to lay down a weld bead, identify the characteristics of a good bead, and problem solve for the causes of incorrect beads. Students may progress to simple welded pieces and may compete a simple project like a pair of bookends.

Class size is 3 people facilitating one-on-one learning and direct mentoring from a professional welder. Each participant will have the use of a fully equipped Miller 215 welder. 

There is an $18 materials fee for steel, gas, filler wire, and recycling included in the class tuition fee.

Safety and Personal Protection Equipment will be provided by BARN.

Age Level: Youth Class, Ages *12-17.

  • *12 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult

  • Tuition assistance is available. Click here to apply.  
  • If you sign up for the full week of classes offered in the Metal Fabrication studios (July 22 through July 26) you will receive a 20% discount. To register for all five classes please call (206) 842-4475 at extension 216 or 220 OR email info@bainbridgebarn.org to request registration for all five classes and the discount will be applied appropriately. 
  • BARN reserves the right to cancel this class in the case of low enrollment and will notify families of this decision one week prior to the start of the class.  A full refund will be given. 
  • Remember to bring the signed permission slip to the first day of class. 

  • Students must wear natural fiber clothing, long pants, closed toe shoes, no stretch fabrics, long hair tied back.
