About
Whether it’s Italy, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Tuscany, or the United States, Alex Leviton has been there, and written about that.
Travel writers document their travels, provide insights into the places they visit, and share recommendations for other travelers. Travel writers create compelling narratives and stories about their travels, such as descriptions of the people and culture. Travel writers may be freelancers, or work for online and/or print newspapers, magazines, trade publications (or even the government).
You don't have to go anywhere to practice the art of travel writing. All it takes is an adventurous spirit, a love of communicating, and a little hands-on research to practice the art of writing about a place and your personal experiences in those places.
Over four days, you'll read several travel narrative pieces, and craft a narrative piece of our own. You'll also write shorter reviews and social media posts. You'll have opportunities to showcase your work if you'd like – taking over BARN's social media page for a bit, display the work at BARN, share with the community, and/or do a show-and-tell reading.
You'll spend time practicing the craft of travel writing, learn how research makes travel stories richer and fuller (and brings a place to life for yourself, as well), and engage with your surroundings at BARN itself with a "seven senses" exercise.
