About

This class is full. Another session has been scheduled for Nov. 17, noon-3 pm.

BARN member:  Free
Non-member:  $10
One 3-hour session
Open to 14 years old and up

Learn how to safely operate the Woodshop's new SawStop table saw to make the different types of cuts needed for a variety of projects. Every participant will have a chance to practice adjusting the saw and making a variety of cuts. Among the cuts will be the final steps of creating cutting board from wood that the instructor will glue up beforehand. Each student will be able to take one home.

This class is designed for beginners as well as woodworkers who want to polish their skills and understanding of safety issues so they can get checked out on this tool. Once checked out, BARN members and guests can work on personal or community service projects during open shop time. (A BARN membership pays for use of the shop during open studio times, which are listed on the BARN woodworking calendar. Non-members can participate in open studio time up to five times a year, for $10 per session.)

NOTE: The first six people to sign up will be able to participate at the date and time listed. Additional sections will be opened if demand warrants.

INSTRUCTOR: David Grant got hooked on woodworking as a youngster, when he participated in a 4-H project in Brookfield, Connecticut. That was 50 years ago, and he's still at it, having learned many lessons along the way. "I'm self-taught and still have all my digits," he says, with his customary humor. David is a board member of BARN and was president of Bainbridge Island Community Woodshop before it merged with BARN. He's also been active on many community service projects, including helping Cub Scouts in their pinewood  derby project.
