About

We started a series of programs we call “Sew-Alongs.” What is a Sew-Along?  It is kind of like a sewing bee where a group of sewing enthusiasts get together and work on the same kind of project.

The Fiber Arts Studio 'Sewing Programming Committee' selected some popular clothing patterns. People who want to participate will purchase their own pattern, fabric, and notions required to make the garment. Then, we will meet and work together to make the chosen garment.

This January Sew-Along  is the Kochi Kimono. A boxy cropped jacket for any season.

Make it in wool for winter or linen for summer, the pattern has three variations and provides plenty of options.

Features optional lining, 3/4 sleeves, drop shoulder, side seam splits, tie front and front patch pockets.

Student Supply List:

“Kochi Kimono” pattern comes from 'papercuts' patterns.  Available at https://papercutpatterns.com/products/kochi-kimono.  The website also offers a tutorial for making this kimono and can give you some ideas for fabrics to use.  The pattern may be available at Esther’s Fabrics in Winslow.  Check first before ordering online.

  • 2 yards of fabric for all three variations of the kimono.  Esther's Fabric has lots of lovely fabrics that will work well for this pattern.
  • Recommended fabrics: The company says 'Anything goes from cozy wool to soft chiffon.'

Version 2: Requires 1.25 yards of lining fabric and a yard of fusing

  • Thread to sew pattern.

Skill Level: Intermediate. Participants should have some experience with using a sewing machine and patterns to make a garment.

Ages: Ages 14+ Welcome.

This Sew-Along is hosted by Renae Matson.
