About

Cancelled per instructor email 4/18/22-CR

This class has prerequisites please see details below before you register.

This 2 session class is designed for students looking to hone their previous experience with tool and torch skills. The instructor will provide demonstrations. With guided hands-on repetition, a toggle bracelet is a great project to help improve your skills. In this class, we will be using copper wire to learn the process and sterling silver wire for your final project.

Torch experience required.

Students will be able to see samples for inspiration and receive a step-by-step demonstration, safety, and tool use from the instructor. This class will be taught using the Smith® Little torch.  All materials and tools needed will be provided for use during this class.

Students are encouraged to register separately for an open studio to practice their skills between these sessions to get the most out of this class. Please see our calendar here.

Details:

  • Prerequisite: Torch experience required. You must have either a Jewelry Studio Skills card that was completed during an in-person assessment that has the torch experience checked off or you have taken a BARN class for example Introduction to the Jewelers' Torch and Soldering Class. You can log in to your BARN account, click on your profile name and check the link "My event registrations" to ensure you have completed a torch class.
  • Please bring a knee-length apron and hand towel.
  • Masks are required for all activities in the Jewelry studio.
  • Please click here for BARN's current COVID-19 health & safety protocols.
  • Feel free to bring a lunch. BARN provides a refrigerator, microwave, coffee & tea in the kitchen on the lower level.
  • BARN is committed to accessibility. Tuition Assistance is available - click here to fill out the simple application before registering for a class. For those who might need physical assistance, please learn about BARN's Companion Program here.

Instructor Bio:

Sarah Jones is a BARN founding member, jewelry studio programming and steering committee member. She is a local Bainbridge Island artist, and teacher with experience in fine metal arts, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, stained glass, and photography.

Because Sarah is a visual and tactile learner herself, her classes typically involve a lot of hands-on learning time. In addition, Sarah’s classes are accompanied by printed information and resources for her students to refer back to when practicing their new skills.

Sarah’s art has been displayed in the Seattle Metals Guild exhibitions and Bainbridge Arts & Craft exhibitions.
