Your BARN Fiber Arts Studio Hosts for these Open Studios are Sue Van Duine and Rose Strausen.

Sue Van Duine is an environmentalist and fiber artist, so Trashion is a great way to combine the two most important and meaningful parts of her life ...protecting the earth and creating art.  She loves the bumper sticker that says, "Earth without Art is just ....eh"

She is committed to the Trashion Show because it showcases creative ways to reuse materials that might otherwise go into landfills as trash. Sue's goal has always been to use materials in a way that people wouldn't expect. She finds this pursuit extremely creative, very challenging, and great fun!  She hopes to inspire others to create art not trash!

Rose Strausen is a costume and fashion designer whose practice is often inspired by the potential of unusual materials. Her work centers around themes of femininity and girl/womanhood, what it means to be a human on this planet, and physically manifesting joy. Her conflict between the desire to create and to foster a sustainable lifestyle is resolved by reusing and repurposing materials that would otherwise go to waste.
