Learn the basics of turning wood on a lathe in this two-session class. Make beads and coves on sample sticks, then proceed to make a top as you focus on spindle turning. 

Students who already have some experience with the lathe may also tackle an optional project, such as a bottle stopper, honey dipper, wooden egg or pen.

This class will cover spindles, chucks and tenons. wood selection, tool types, sharpening, and lathe adjustment and accessories, including different types of chucks. 

Details:

  • Materials fee is $5. Please bring to the first session.
  • Beginners are welcome.

INSTRUCTOR: Bruce Claiborne is a retired Bainbridge High School teacher who volunteers regularly at the high school shop to help students with their turning projects.
