About
This Combination Class for MIG or TIG Welding #3 and #4 is designed to efficiently let students complete either MIG or TIG #3 (Fabrication) OR #4 (Project/Practice) in the sequence leading to the use of the welding studio. Students should have completed Introduction to Welding #1 and #2 or MIG or TIG.
This 3 hour class allows each student to design and work on a project of their choosing under the guidance of a professional welder. Your project should be the culmination of what you have learned in prior classes.
Details:
- Students for #3 should be familiar with shop tools or should take the free course on Introduction to Welding Studio Machine Tools. Students in #3 will learn to cut and fabricate accurate and sturdy joints leading to the ability to create basic furniture.
- Students for #4 should design their project, create a cut list and procure their materials. You will find a drawing to be helpful in communicating with the instructor. You can use this as a starting point for a project to be finished later in open studio or on your own. You will need to bring the materials necessary to work on their project. The class will give you the opportunity to fill any gaps in your welding experience or knowledge and to demonstrate that you have the skills to work independently in the welding studio.
- There is a materials fee of $18 for 5 pounds of steel (from what is on hand), filler wire, gas, consumables and recycling included in the price of class.
- Safety and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will be provided by BARN.
- Students must wear long sleeve natural fiber clothing, closed toe shoes, no stretch fabrics.
- (This class is open to Monitors who wish to practice or familiarize themselves -- providing the class is not fully subscribed.)
Bio:
Erin Munter was raised locally on the Island. In her 20's she moved to Oakland California and attended the welding program at Laney College for 4 years. During this time she interned and volunteered at a metal arts school called The Crucible. She returned to Bainbridge Island and began doing furniture bases and other fabrication for Coyote Woodshop. Eventually she moved on to work at an Island fabricating shop as well as teach at another Kitsap area school aimed towards children's welding education. She still currently does fabrication all over Kitsap. Her passion is everything welded including large and small indoor and outdoor household amenities. She also takes part in the local art community with sculptures in local shows past and future.
