This is primarily a presentation and discussion class with hands-on examples.  You will get information and tips to take away and finish your own project.

Carla will distinguish between appropriate finished for interior and exterior applications.  She will present a variety of finish examples in a Powerpoint format supported by samples.

The importance of appropriate preparation for generic and particular finishes will be discussed with examples (e.g., acid and sand blasting etc.).  This will include a discussion of mill scale and how to deal with it. The class will include a discussion of rust and rust as an intended finish including forcing rust.

There will be an opportunity to try wire wheel, sanding, polishing and texturing finishes on sample materials.  Flame treatment (MAPP gas will be shown.)

Methods of sealing projects such as wax, lacquer, oil, Penetrol, paint, etc. will be covered.  Carla will demonstrate gun blackening (bluing).

Carla will provide printed references or resources for your future reference.
