This class is the second of a two-part series. It is a sequel to Introduction to TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding Part 1.
This class builds on the introduction provided in Part 1 which is a prerequisite. This is a hands-on opportunity to reprise and practice what was learned in Part 1. The TIG welding class is limited to 4 participants and focuses on hands-on mentoring and practice.
Each participant will have the use of a fully equipped TIG welding station.
The objective of the two part series is for you to be able to comfortably weld using the TIG process.
The class will review the safety briefing, the introduction to welding theory and materials and the set up process for TIG welding on a Miller 215 Welder and to sharpen the tungsten. The emphasis of the class will be on technique development and practice.
There will be approximately an hour and a half of hands-on instruction in making a weld, different types of welds, and torch manipulation. Over the shoulder mentoring will be from a professional TIG welder.
At the end of class, students should feel comfortable with the operation of the welding machine and the TIG welding process. The goal is for each student to able to critique their technique and identify flaws in their beads and how to correct them. Students should be comfortable undertaking independent practice of technique or starting their own projects.
BARN will provide:
- Welding hood
- Welding gloves
- Protective welding jackets or sleeves if desired
- Hand tools
- Welders and welding station
- Practice materials
The following is required from each participant:
- Long sleeve shirt and pants both natural fiber clothing
- Closed toe shoes
Instructor Bio: Patrick Clanton is a professional welder with more than 30 years of experience. He participates in the artisan community on Bainbridge as a welder in support of other artists and as a sculptor in his own right.
