About

BARN member:  $11
Non-member:    $20
One two-hour class

Are you envious of people who learned as kids how to build and fix things and wish there were classes you could take to learn how to be your own handyman/woman?

This  session, the first in a series of "Woodworking 101" classes, will introduce you to basic woodworking tools, including hammers, chisels, squares, clamps, saws, planes and measuring tools. You'll learn about the different tool types, get to try them out, and learn for yourself the wisdom behind the old maxim about always using the right tool for the job.

No experience is necessary. There will be a $5 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the class.

This class can be taken independently or in combination with other classes in the Woodworking 101 series.

NOTE: The first six people to sign up will be able to participate at the date and time listed. Additional sections will be added if demand warrants. Please email if the class is full and you would like to be on a list for the next class.

INSTRUCTOR: Jeanne Huber made a lot of mistakes as she worked on her own home, then got a chance to learn from pros in the preservation carpentry program at North Bennet Street School in Boston. She worked briefly as a finish carpenter in Cambridge before becoming an editor at This Old House magazine. She currently writes a weekly how-to column for the Washington Post.

David Grant will assist in this class.
