About

* This program has prerequisites. Please see below.

Woodshop Guided Open Studio with Josh Haza is for you if you have some hands-on woodworking experience but want help to develop and complete a project that seems too lofty to tackle alone.

By signing up for this three-week program, you and up to five other woodworkers will have access to an instructor to guide your work during six Open Studio sessions. You will share the shop and tools with others, just as in any Open Studio.

The group will meet for a short period at the beginning of each session to review everything from planning and design, to wood selection, appropriate joinery and finishing choices. From there, the instructor will assist individual participants with their projects and demonstrate specific skills based on the needs of the individuals.

This program promises to build on your knowledge of planning, design, wood selection, proper tool usage and finishes. It is meant for those who want to take on that project you have been thinking about — but with the support of an instructor.

Details:
  • Open to people 14+ years old who have taken * Orientation to the Woodshop, Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 1 and Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 2. If you have not already taken these classes, please register for them before enrolling in this program.
  • At the first session, the instructor will evaluate proposed projects and offer advice about whether they are likely to be completed during the allotted time. If students want to tackle more complex projects, they must be willing to work on them outside of the scheduled times without the instructor.
  • You will need to purchase your own materials before the second session.
Instructor: Josh Haza. Josh has been building furniture for his home and doing home renovations for a few decades now. He also built equipment for high school physics classes he taught.
