About

As we all work together to help curb the spread of COVID- 19, we’ve made the difficult decision to keep BARN closed through the end of April. 3/23 SK

* This class has prerequisites. Please see below.

Interested in being a safety monitor in the Woodworking Studio at BARN? This two-session  class will explain the safety monitor program and the responsibilities of the shop monitor.

Session one will cover BARN and woodshop policies.  Discussion will include safety of users, safe operation of tools, woodshop systems including lighting, dust collection, cleanup, and opening and closing procedures for Open Studio time. Session two will go into detail on the safe operation of several of the more complex tools including the SawStop table saws, band saws and wide-belt sander.

Monitors should be able to volunteer for at least one three-hour shift each month. When the shop is not being used for classes or other activities, monitors can use the shop as long as another monitor is present.

This class is free but please register so we know how many to expect.

Level of Class: Intermediate

* Prerequisites: To take this class, you must be a BARN member and have already taken Orientation to the Woodshop, Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 1, and Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 2.

Wear closed-toe shoes. Bring and wear safety glasses. Wear hearing protectors when warranted; bring your own or use BARN's. Tie back long hair. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry; roll up sleeves.

Instructor:  Joe Dunstan has been a woodworker for 20 years and has built his own house.  He and Jodi Kelly manage the safety monitor program for the Woodworking Studio.
