About

* This class has prerequisites. Please see below.

Interested in being a safety monitor in the Woodworking Studio at BARN? This two-session  class will explain the safety monitor program and the responsibilities of the shop monitor.

Session one will cover BARN and woodshop policies, safety of users, safe operation of tools, woodshop systems including lighting, dust collection, cleanup, and opening and closing procedures for Open Studio. Session two will go into detail on the safe operation of several of the more complex tools including the SawStop table saws, band saws and wide-belt sander. Monitor candidates must also authorize a background check and shadow an experienced monitor on at least two shifts before they are approved for the position.

Monitors must be BARN members and should be able to volunteer an average of one three-hour shift each month.

Monitors are not paid but they may use the studio when the shop hasn't been reserved for other events, such as classes, shop maintenance times, or scheduled community service projects. Identify these times by checking the online Woodworking Studio calendar or the printed calendar posted at the entry to the studio. Monitors must work in pairs.

This class is free but please register so we know how many to expect.

Details:

  • Open only to BARN members.
