Learn essential tools to establishing a productive writing routine and complete your first manuscript in this literary exploration. Grasp practical writing techniques, navigate the nuances of the craft, and overcome hurdles like procrastination and writer's block.

Join us this new year to transform your writing aspirations into reality under the mentorship of Adam Fuller — best-selling author of the Thomas Austin Crime Thrillers series written as D.D. Black.

Each session explores the craft of writing as well as delving into the process and common stumbling blocks faced by writers.

Week 1

  • Craft: Book ideas and concepts, plotting vs. "pantsing" (writing by the seat of your pants), outline creation, character and story basics
  • Process: Creating a consistent writing routine, working with procrastination and the inner critic

Week 2

  • Craft: Narrative engines, character and story development
  • Process: Useful writing tools and apps, building a sustainable writing life

Week 3

  • Craft: Setting, world-building, research, chapters and scenes
  • Process: Boosting writing speed and discipline

Week 4

  • Craft: Point of view, voice, dialogue, and detail
  • Process: Navigating common writing stumbling blocks

Week 5

  • Craft: Completing a draft, revision strategies
  • Process: Finding your writing community (groups, workshops, partners), resilience

Week 6

  • Craft: Self-editing techniques
  • Process: Introduction to the publishing world

It's important to note that while this course provides the tools, your success will depend on your commitment to work consistently on your writing between sessions. This is a journey for those ready to invest time and willpower to bring their literary vision to life. Details

  • Beginners are welcome, but you'll find it easier to complete a first draft if you've already made efforts toward writing. It's recommended you work to create a writing routine, including a consistent time and place to write, before class begins so you're ready to hit the ground running!
  • If you prefer, you may register to take the class online.

Adam Fuller

Adam is a full-time author with more than 30 published books under two different names — A.C. Fuller and D.D. Black. Previously, he was an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University and has taught writing and book marketing at conferences and libraries all over the country and internationally.
