FOURTH THURSDAY ROUNDTABLE

Writing Flash Fiction: A Teen Perspective

Our panelists this month are fresh from our recent Teen Writing Camp. As one instructor Rebecca Lacko reports: "I still have a post-camp glow. It was so great being part of the teens' creative journey. It's exciting and sometimes humbling to watch what springs from these kids. Overall, these were serious writers at work. In the end, our participants are energetic teens, who chose to dedicate 10 hours to their creative writing. No school credit, no hype, just improving and refining—and SHARING—their writing. It was pretty amazing.”

The July 28th Roundtable will feature three teens —Teresa Colaluca, Ayla Bolm, and Jeanine Sheet— who have volunteered to talk about the craft of writing flash fiction. Together, we will explore the medium, discuss what makes a successful piece, and listen to samplings of short fiction written by our panelists. Time permitting, we’ll start a flash fiction piece ourselves and hold a follow up Open Mic in mid-August for those who would like to read the work they start!
