Chip carving dates back to the time of the Vikings and has been featured in the folk arts of many countries. This style of woodcarving uses small, repetitive cuts to create geometric or other designs on the surface of wood.

In this class, you'll learn about the specialty knives used in chip carving, how to use them safely, and how to keep the blades sharp. You'll go home with your own chip carving knife and some extra basswood so you can make additional projects on your own.

A $22 materials fee, included in the class fee, covers everything you need, including a chip-carving knife that you can take home, plus enough basswood for practice cuts, a wooden valentine and a couple of future projects.

Class Policies

• Ages 10-14 are welcome.
• You must wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
