Make hand-drawn cards with people, animals, and any images of your choice, and learn how to transform those cards into different pop-up card forms, how to keep them as standalone cards, or glue them together to become a whole pop-up book. And you'll be introduced to working with linocuts — a type of print created by carving a design into a sheet of linoleum, inking the raised surface, and pressing it onto paper or fabric

Prints are a great way to decorate covers for books and pop up cards, as well as practice your drawings in printmaking form where you can create multiple copies of your image – printing!

• Class 1: An introduction to the world of card making, including how to fold cards and drawing for cards, whether for a specific occasion or just to have fun with images and words, or images and blank spaces inside. Learn about basic folded cards, tri-fold “theatre-style" cards, and some basic fold out, pocket, and pop up structures.
• Class 2: Learn additional pop-up structures, and make several unique pop-up cards that can be the same theme or with the same character. You'll learn about the concept of editions in bookmaking and, if you choose, learn how to attach your cards so they can form a whole pop-up book.
• Class 3: Finish up any pop-up work you need to or make new cards, and learn how to make images using the technique of relief printing. Printmaking is great because you can make multiple versions of the same image, and use this technique to decorate the covers of your pop-up card books or make another edition of printmaking prints or cards.

• Designed for youth ages 10-14.
• Feel free to bring a snack and water. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

If you have a sketchbook you prefer to draw in, feel free to bring that. It is not required. All materials are included in the class cost.
