About

This is Yori's everyday knife. It is a utility knife with a Scandinavian edge geometry that he uses on the boat, at the farm, and in the shop. It rarely leaves his side.

This course is designed to introduce you to forging a blade with requisite tang. It is a classic style of making knives in Scandinavia and is a quite fun knife to make. You will learn to hammer a rough blade and tang as well as create a wooden handle with a nickel silver ferrule.

If time permits, Yori will show you how to personalize your knife handle with an inlay of nickel silver wire.

Details

Material fees of $85 for the Scandi Knife course covers the steel alloy bar, wood for handle (you may bring your own material if you like), and the nickel-silver for the knife ferrule.

Prerequisites

One or all of the following courses:

Seasoned smiths and beginners alike are welcome to participate in this course. However, Scandi Knife students will benefit from the experience of the butterknife and/or the blacksmith's knife lessons.

  • This class is in an open-air workshop, so dress accordingly.
  • Wear natural fiber clothing only (no synthetics that could melt).
