About
For fans of making or shaping metal objects by heating them and then beating or hammering them to the desired shape – this is time for improving your skills and working on your own projects.
Only two spots are currently available in order to maintain safety protocols. You'll be asked to help set up (beginning at noon) as well as tear down the workspace, including cleanup (to be complete by 3 PM). You'll be able to work on your project in between.
Details
- Trained volunteer monitors are not present to serve as instructors. Open studios are intended for independent work.
- This event is outside. A canopy likely will be erected for protection from light rain or the sun. Heavy rain, wind, or extreme weather may require the event to be canceled.
- Registration is required. No drop-ins, please.
- Join the wait list if this open studio is filled, and you'll be notified via email if a spot becomes available.
Prerequisites
- Open studio time is not suited for those who have not yet worked at a forge.
- If you've no forging experience or it's been years since you worked a piece of red-hot steel, gain your needed experience by attending one of BARN's forging classes.
Contact metal.programming@bainbridgebarn.org in advance if you have questions about prerequisites.
Class Policies
- Wear natural-fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe shoes (natural fiber or leather). No stretch or synthetic fabrics. Tie back long hair.
- Safety glasses are required. Bring your own (recommended) or use BARN's.
- Ages 14 and up are welcome.
- You're expected to help with setup, teardown, and cleanup.
Please contact metal.programming@bainbridgebarn.org with questions or concerns about these policies.
