This class focuses on furniture design from both artistic and practical points of view.

  • Session 1: Brief shop orientation, then historical furniture styles and why they evolved as they did.
  • Session 2: Dimensions that make furniture comfortable and useful in homes; materials options and how they influence joinery decisions and the assembly process; and resources available in the Woodworking Studio for various kind of joinery.
  • Session 3: How to apply the principles covered in this class to what you want to build.

BARN will provide paper and pencils to sketch projects.

Project

If you have a project you want to build, you will go home with a plan that shows joinery and assembly details. No actual construction will take place in this class.

Prerequisites

None. But keep your skill level in mind when you select a project to plan.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
