About

Make a set of jigs that will help you create screens, trivets or other projects that feature kumiko, a technique of assembling wooden pieces into intricate, interlocking geometric patterns without nails.

You will use the table saw, bandsaw, router, and sanders to make your jigs, which you can take home or bring back to BARN to make your own kumiko projects.

You may also wish to sign up for a class that uses these jigs to make several kumiko pieces with different traditional patterns. Learn more and register here.

A $90 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you need.

Project

You will make five jigs that help ensure accurate cuts:

• A cutting block
• A planing jig
• Three double-ended jigs for cutting 45- and 67.5-degree angles, 30- and 60-degree angles, and 22.5- and 67.5-degree angles

Class Policies

• Ages 14 and up are welcome.

• Wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid dangling jewelry and clothing. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
