About
Build a small and simple table of your own design, focusing on basic MIG welding and the fundamentals of fabrication from design through construction. The fundamentals covered include:
- Basic MIG welding technique
- Tool use
- Basic design and fabrication feasibility
- Developing your design
- Using measuring tools effectively
- Making a mitered square out of angle iron or experiment with bending a ring to support the top
- Welding joints and use of clamps and jigs
- Determining how and where to weld for structural integrity
- Practice welding
- Assembly – Putting it together step by step
- Grinding, fixing flaws, and finishing
Details
- Experience level: All. Designed for beginners and novices with little or no welding experience, this class also is suitable for more experienced welders.
- Safety, tool use, design, cutting, and basic welding skills will be covered in the first class. In the second class, you'll learn about cutting, clamping and welding. And in the final session, the focus will be on final assembly, cleanup, and finishing.
Details
A $20 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, includes everything you need except the top for your table, which you'll need to provide.
Project
You'll design and build a small table (18" X 18" or smaller). Tops can be steel, wood, slate, resin, glass, or cement – something you can work with and provide.
