No need to know how to draw for this class because the natural artistry of plants will do all the work to make your prints beautiful! You'll make a series of one-of-a-kind prints on paper using oil-based ink and plants.

You'll apply oil-based ink to plexiglass plates, adjust the ink in a variety of ways, and learn a number of techniques to incorporate plants into your images. While many forms of printmaking produce multiples, monotype printmaking results in a unique print each time.     

This workshop will cover:

• The history of monotype printmaking.
• How to set up the studio’s etching press.
• Preparing your paper for printing, including soaking it.
• A range of techniques to apply ink to a plexiglass plate and manipulate it once it’s on the plate.
• What plants work best for printmaking.
• How to incorporate plants into prints, including how to ink up the plants directly.
• How to make “multiple drops,” meaning running the same print through the press several times to create multi-layered imagery.

Details

• Skill level: Beginner.
• You're encouraged to bring a variety of plant materials to class, such as leaves and dried grasses. The instructor will assess to make sure it's appropriate to use in the press. More botanical material will be provided by the instructor.
• Bring a lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

• A $10 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.
• You're encouraged to bring leaves, flowers, grasses, etc.
