About

Work on projects of your own choosing in BARN’s spectacularly equipped Woodworking & Small Boatbuilding Shop.

Open studio time is a collaborative, informal-learning situation where woodworkers of various skill levels share tips and offer a hand when needed. Free for members and a $10 drop-in fee for non-members.

A trained safety monitor is always on duty during open studio time. You will need to be checked out on specific power tools before you can use them. If the shop is not busy, the safety monitor may be able to check you out on a few tools during open studio time. But the best way to get checked out, especially if you are a beginner, is to sign up for one of the shop’s tool-focused safety classes.

BARN supplies tools and basic shop supplies, such as sandpaper. But participants are expected to bring their own wood, hardware, etc. Participants must also bring safety glasses and wear them at all times when in the shop. When someone is working with noisy equipment, hearing protection is also required.

To accommodate classes, portions of the shop are sometimes unavailable for general use during open studio time. We will attempt to post any restrictions on the open studio listing for that day.
