About

Starting with a square or rectangular block of wood, choose which face will be the lid. Then use a bandsaw or a scroll saw to cut the block apart in a way that allows it to be glued back together to make a hollowed-out box. No fancy joinery is needed.

Learn about different ways to embellish your box — techniques you can use on many other wood projects too. You will learn how to burn in a design with a hot-tipped tool,  carve with hand tools or a small rotary carving tool, and add color with milk paints, acrylic paints or stains.

If time allows, you can make more than one box.

Class Policies

  • Open to students 12 to 14 years old.
  • Wear close-toed shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid dangling clothing or jewelry. You must wear safety glasses. We recommend bringing your own, but the shop has some you can use if necessary.
Instructor
